Air Greenland Appoints TAL Aviation as its representative in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal and Spain

9 February, 2014

TAL Aviation welcomes Air Greenland, its new partner, to its extensive portfolio with the representation of Greenland’s national carrier in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal and Spain.

Greenland’s flag carrier airline operates to destinations in Greenland, Denmark, Iceland and Canada with a fleet of 32 aircraft, including 1 airliner used for transatlantic and charter flights, 9 fixed-wing aircraft primarily serving the domestic network, and 22 helicopters feeding passengers from the smaller communities into the domestic airport network.

Greenland offers adventures that are out of this world.  From whale safaris, mountaineering, dogsledding to experiencing the Greenlandic culture, art and the Northern lights.

Greenland is, in terms of area, the world's largest island, over three-quarters of which is covered by the only contemporary ice sheet outside of Antarctica. Greenland also contains the world's largest national park, and is the largest dependent territory by area in the world.

Air transportation is vital in Greenland to connect its people within the territory and to the world. There is also scheduled boat traffic, but the long distances lead to long travel times and low frequency. There are no roads between cities because the coast has many fjords that would require ferry service to connect a road network. Also the lack of agriculture, forestry and similar countryside activities has meant that very few countryside roads have been built.

More About Air Greenland

Greenland’s national airline Grønlandsfly was founded in 1960. The company changed its name to Air Greenland in 2002 and has undergone rapid development during the last 50 years: From seaplanes to jet planes; and from helicopter services to scheduled services with fixed-wing aircraft. Then, as now, Air Greenland operates in Arctic airspace, which presents a unique range of challenges.
