Bangkok Airways and Qantas announce new Codeshare agreement

BANGKOK March, 2014: Bangkok Airways (PG) and Qantas (QF) today announced the commencement of their codeshare agreement on selected flights in Thailand and within the region.

The new partnership will enable passengers of Qantas a smooth transit through Singapore’s Shangi Airport onward to Samui and Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport to Samui, Phuket, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and Phuket.

From 30 March, Qantas customers will be able to book on Bangkok Airways services from Bangkok and Singapore to six new destinations in Thailand, including KoSamui, Chiang Mai and Phuket.*

Mr. Peter Wiesner, Bangkok Airways Senior Vice President - Network management commented: "This new partnership will offer smooth transit for passengers travelling from long-haul routes with Qantas to Bangkok and Singapore for their onward journey to Thailand’s key destinations namely Samui, Phuket, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and Phuket. We believe this partnership will offer a unique advantage for Qantas’ passengers who will enjoy our unparalleled services which include: free lounge access, in-flight meal and many more. I am confident that this will also strengthen Bangkok Airways’ extensive codeshare scheme as well as boosting tourism in Thailand and Asia."

Qantas International Chief Executive Officer Simon Hickey said the agreement was another step forward in delivering on the airline’s strategy to offer the best options for customers travelling between Australia and Asia.

“This partnership is great news for our customers travelling to resort destinations in Thailand. The new codeshare services will allow customers to connect to their holiday destination via Bangkok or Singapore, with more opportunities to earn frequent flyer points and have their luggage checked straight through to their final destination,” said Mr Hickey.

Qantas and Bangkok Airways are working towards a reciprocal agreement which will enable Bangkok Airways customers to book on Qantas international services from Bangkok and Singapore to Australia, and on a number of routes on Qantas’ domestic network.

The followingcodeshare services operated by Bangkok Airways will be available for booking and travel from 30 March 2014*:

• Singapore – KoSamui

• Bangkok – KoSamui

• Bangkok – Phuket

• Bangkok – Chiang Mai

• Bangkok – Krabi

• Bangkok – Chiang Rai

* Subject to regulatory approval.
