Cathay Pacific and Dragonair introduce Self Service Bag Drop at Hong Kong International Airport

image
14 April, 2016

Cathay Pacific Airways and Dragonair have introduced a new Self Service Bag Drop facility at Hong Kong International Airport that will further enhance the airport experience for passengers of the two airlines.

Self Service Bag Drop allows passengers to check in baggage by themselves. The self-service process includes printing the baggage tag, tagging the luggage and dispatching the luggage. Passengers who have completed their check-in process - online, at airport check-in counters or using self-service check-in kiosks - can drop off their baggage using the Self Service Bag Drop facility, saving up to half of the normal processing time compared to queuing at check-in counters. The new facility will result in a smoother and quicker check-in process.

Starting 1 April, five Self Service Bag Drop machines commenced operation at Cathay Pacific counters located in Aisle C at Hong Kong International Airport, with another four machines at Dragonair counters in Aisle H. In the initial stage, the service is available on selected routes from Hong Kong, including Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore for Premium Economy and Economy Class passengers on Cathay Pacific, and Chiang Mai, Fukuoka, Kota Kinabalu, Okinawa, Penang and Phuket for Economy Class passengers on Dragonair. The airlines will work closely with Airport Authority Hong Kong to expand the Self Service Bag Drop service to more routes in phases.

Cathay Pacific and Dragonair always strive to offer the best travel experience for their passengers from the ground to the air. Increasingly, passengers prefer to have more control over different stages of their own journey, and the Self Service Bag Drop facility provides them with a more convenient, controlled and efficient experience.

This new facility at Hong Kong International Airport aligns with a worldwide trend for introducing self-service functions in airports. Following the rollout in Hong Kong, Amsterdam and Singapore will be the next Cathay Pacific destinations to introduce the Self Service Bag Drop facility for passengers.
