Icelandair takes off from Dallas-Fort Worth International (DFW) with its first non-stop flight connecting Texas to Iceland. Guests were treated to a gate celebration, including a traditional water cannon salute known as a “Shower of Affection,” as flight 872 departed for Iceland at 5:00 pm. Icelandair’s special glacier-themed livery, Vatnajokull, inaugurated the service.

In lieu of a standard ribbon-cutting, two members of Tolfan, the name given to the group of super-fans of the Iceland national football (soccer) team, led the passengers at the gate in a round of the iconic “huh” Viking clap, to celebrate the Iceland team competing in the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Birna Osk Einarsdottir - Business Development & Strategy for Icelandair, and Milton De La Paz – VP, Airline Relations for DFW International, were also on hand to celebrate Icelandair’s newest service and welcome passengers on board.

The new route will provide more travel choices for DFW customers via the Icelandair hub in Reykjavik, which serves more than 25 destinations in Europe. Icelandair passengers will also enjoy a new fare structure allowing them to customize their fare based on their needs, with more legroom, personal inflight entertainment, and gate-to-gate Wi-Fi.

Icelandair has been in operation since 1937 and this year will operate the largest route network in its history. Dallas-Fort Worth will be their first flight from Texas.

Flight # FI872 departs Dallas-Fort Worth at 4:20 pm (CDT) and arrives KEF at 5:10 am (GMT), just in time to start your day in Iceland or make easy connections to Europe. Flight # FI873 departs Keflavik International at 5:30pm (GMT) and arrives Dallas-Fort Worth at 8:55 pm (CDT), Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.
