Santiago de Compostela is the capital of the autonomous community of Galicia and is famous for the pilgrimages devoted to Jesus Christ’s apostle St. James, whose remains are supposed to be buried at the site where the city’s cathedral stands today.
The pilgrimages and the famous “Way of St. James” date back to the 9th century. UNESCO has classified the city’s historic centre as a World Heritage site.
This TAP connection brings the capitals of Portugal and Galicia closer and also provides the best links between cities in southern Spain and Santiago de Compostela, via Lisbon, as well as offering Galicians the most convenient connections to TAP destinations in North America, Brazil, Africa and other European countries it serves.
